Chrism Mass First Reading: Isaiah 61:1-3, 6, 8-9 1The (A)Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To (B)bring good news to the (C)afflicted; He has sent me to (D)bind up the brokenhearted, To (E)proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners; 2To (F)proclaim the favorable year of the LORD And the (G)day of vengeance of our God; To (H)comfort all who mourn, 3To (I)grant those who mourn in Zion, Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The (J)oil of gladness instead of mourning, The mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting So they will be called (K)oaks of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified. 6But you will be called the (N)priests of the LORD; You will be spoken of as (O)ministers of our God You will eat the (P)wealth of nations, And in their riches you will boast. 8For I, the LORD, (T)love justice, I hate robbery in the burnt offering; And I will faithfully give them their recompense And make an (U)everlasting covenant with them. 9Then their offspring will be known among the nations, And their descendants in the midst of the peoples. All who see them will recognize them Because they are the (V)offspring whom the LORD has blessed.8For I, the LORD, (T)love justice, I hate robbery in the burnt offering; And I will faithfully give them their recompense And make an (U)everlasting covenant with them. Second Reading: Revelation 1:5-8 5and from Jesus Christ, (P)the faithful witness, the (Q)firstborn of the dead, and the (R)ruler of the kings of the earth To Him who (S)loves us and released us from our sins by His blood-- 6and He has made us to be a (T)kingdom, (U)priests to (V)His God and Father--(W)to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7(X)BEHOLD, HE IS COMING WITH THE CLOUDS, and (Y)every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will (Z)mourn over Him. So it is to be. Amen. 8"I am (AA)the Alpha and the Omega," says the (AB)Lord God, "(AC)who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." Gospel: Luke 4:16-21 16And He came to (A)Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, (B)He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and (C)stood up to read. 17And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book and found the place where it was written, 18"(D)THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED, 19(E)TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE LORD." 20And He (F)closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and (G)sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper First Reading: Exodus 12:1-8, 11-14 1Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 2"(A)This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. 3"Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, 'On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers' households, a lamb for each household. 4'Now if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons in them; according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb. 5'Your lamb shall be (B)an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6'You shall keep it until the (C)fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it (D)at twilight. 7'(E)Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8'They shall eat the flesh (F)that same night, (G)roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with (H)unleavened bread (I)and bitter herbs. 11'Now you shall eat it in this manner: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste--it is (M)the LORD'S Passover. 12'For (N)I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and (O)against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments--(P)I am the LORD. 13'(Q)The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. Feast of Unleavened Bread 14'Now (R)this day will be (S)a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as (T)a permanent ordinance. Second Reading: First Corinthians 11:23-26 23For (AA)I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that (AB)the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 25In the same way He took (AC)the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the (AD)new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 26For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death (AE)until He comes. Gospel: John 13:1-15 1Now before the Feast of (A)the Passover, Jesus knowing that (B)His hour had come that He would depart out of this world (C)to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end. 2During supper, (D)the devil having already put into the heart of (E)Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to betray Him, 3Jesus, (F)knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that (G)He had come forth from God and was going back to God, 4got up from supper, and laid aside His garments; and taking a towel, He (H)girded Himself. Jesus Washes the Disciples' Feet 5Then He poured water into the basin, and began to (I)wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6So He came to Simon Peter. He said to Him, "Lord, do You wash my feet?" 7Jesus answered and said to him, "What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand (J)hereafter." 8Peter said to Him, "Never shall You wash my feet!" Jesus answered him, "(K)If I do not wash you, (L)you have no part with Me." 9Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and my head." 10Jesus said to him, "He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and (M)you are clean, but not all of you." 11For (N)He knew the one who was betraying Him; for this reason He said, "Not all of you are clean." 12So when He had washed their feet, and (O)taken His garments and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you? 13"You call Me (P)Teacher and (Q)Lord; and you are right, for so I am. 14"If I then, (R)the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. 15"For I gave you (S)an example that you also should do as I did to you. |
